Abstract: Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of the two universities in China that have the longest history, yet it is now widely known as the most dynamic institution in the nation.
Innovation is one of the key characteristics of the university. Whether a university could contribute to the society by constantly generating innovations depends on its capacity in motivating its faculty to produce innovative outcomes, guaranteeing an institution holding priority on scholarship, and developing the campus culture that persistently stimulate the faculty towards self-realization and sustained growth. In the recent ten years, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has been implementing a series of reforming measures with institutional incentives as the core, and spectacular accomplishments have emerged in education, research, serving the community and international fame. The three structures of excellence respectively in creative talent growth, science and technology innovation and cultural heritage and spiritual guidance, which are in accordance with societal needs, have unfolded.
Hence, SJTU has through its strenuous efforts become a domestically top and globally well-famed university with three distinctive features of comprehensiveness, research-intensiveness and internationalization. The university will continue to embrace the global vision and innovative mind to fulfill its mission of seeking the truth and spreading civilization for the betterment of the society.
