Cloud Orchestration and Automation: The Elephant and the Holy Grail

Automation, Cloud Orchestration, DevOps Integration and Instrumentation; the Holy Grail of cloud deployment is to eliminate the workload of deploying, scaling and managing infrastructure so that energy is focused on revenue-centric development.  I will address the elephant in the room for companies adopting cloud and DevOps, and share how we advise navigation of the options.

Bio:
Marco Pessi is a Technical Product Manager with Pluribus Networks, an SDN leader disrupting the market through its innovative network services to accelerate the adoption of SDN and NFV in data centers. Previously, Marco has spent 16 years with Cisco Systems, working as a technical leader on data center and enterprise campus switching products. His initial career in Cisco was in the optical and broadband service provider group as a technical engineering manager. Marco holds MS degree in Electronics, Robotics and IT from Polytechnic University of Milan and prior to joining Cisco was a software engineer in several Networking startups in Italy.


OpenStack Sucks, Why We Built Canada's First Public Cloud using OpenStack and How We Did It

Abstract:
Over the last five years OpenStack has forced an industry shift and brought unlikely competitors into an equal partnership.  The community has seen a lot of right turns, but even more wrong turns, and OpenStack implementations have proven to be complicated, costly, and high-risk.  This talk briefly looks at the tools and architecture used to build an OpenStack Cloud and the challenges we've had running a vendor free OpenStack Public Cloud that has survived multiple generations of upgrades without a failure and forced innovation and change to happen in the most unlikely of industries.
